Eminence Road Chardonnay 2015: $20 Very Good+

The Eminence Road Chardonnay (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $20 [Very Good+] is one of the most interesting Chardonnays from the Finger Lakes I’ve ever tasted.  Flavorful, well balanced, and very complex, its aromas fascinate.  This is not a powerful wine, but those who love complexity and subtlety will find this a very rewarding bottle.

Medium straw yellow in color, the aromas are pointed and tangy, with aromas of white peach, lemon cream, tangerine, butterscotch, yeasty notes, and gunflint.  It is a pretty and complex set of aromas, ever-changing.  Medium bodied, with a enlivening bit of mineral spritz and a full mouth feel, balance is very good.  Flavors of white peach, granny smith apple, lemon cream, tangerine, yeasty notes, butterscotch, and stony mineral have very nice intensity and focus.  The finish is lightly chalky and peppery, lip smacking, with very good length.  January 2018
