Fox Run “Doyle Family” Chardonnay 2015: $12 Good

The Fox Run “Doyle Family Vineyard” Chardonnay 2013 was a lovely wine and a terrific value.  I hoped, at the time, that this wine would be the first in a string of great-value “Doyles” from Fox Run.  But it didn’t happen.  The 2014 was not very engaging, and neither is this year’s model, the Fox Run “Doyle Family” Chardonnay (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $12 [Good].   It appears that Red Tail Ridge has taken the lead in Finger Lakes Chardonnay from the Doyle vineyards.

Medium lemon in color, modest aromas of apple, apricot, hints of wax, pepper and stony earthy notes are not especially engaging.  Medium bodied, dry, with a good deal of peppery acidity, balance is just OK.  Tart tough flavors of green apple, lemon, slight buttery notes and stones have modest intensity and appeal.  The finish is tough and spicy/peppery, and comes to a swift conclusion.  July 2016
