Boundary Breaks Gewürztraminer 2015: $20 Very Good

The web site may still say “we only produce Riesling,” but here's some contrary evidence, the first Gewürztraminer from Boundary Breaks.  It is certainly a good first effort from the winery.  The Boundary Breaks Vineyard Gewürztraminer (Finger Lakes, NY) $20 [Very Good] is an elegant and understated wine, not at all brash as Gewürztraminer can be, with good flavor concentration and mild spice.  It is a good sipper, and can also be consumed with mild-to-medium intense foods.

Bright medium lemon in color, the musky/meaty aromas feature melon, spicy pear and lychee, accented by earth and chalky mineral.  Medium to full bodied, medium dry, with a satiny round mouth feel, the BB is nicelyl balanced.  Moderately intense flavors of pear, lychee, melon and lemon grass are lightly spiced and accented by earth and mineral notes. The finish is satiny and not especially spicy for Gewürztraminer, with good poise and length.  December 2016
