Dr. Konstantin Frank Gewürztraminer 2015: $15 Very Good+

The Dr. Konstantin Frank Gewürztraminer (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $15 [Very Good+] is a snappy, well-made wine, with ample flavor.  In style, it is medium-dry (i.e. noticeably sweet) and not especially spicy, a Gewürztraminer for Riesling lovers.  A fine sipper, this well-balanced wine will work with many foods too.  It is an excellent buy.

Medium lemon-yellow in color, the Frank has full aromas of pear, lychee, fruit cocktail and citrus, accompanied by just a jot of spice and a smoky mineral note.  Medium bodied, medium dry, with a hint of tannin and very good zippy acidity, the Frank is very well balanced.  Vivid fruit flavors of ripe pink grapefruit, pear, and lychee are accented by a bit of spice and a smoky mineral note.  Concentration and purity are impressive.  The finish is balanced, spicier and more citrus-zesty than the mid-palate, a bit chalky-textured, with very good length.  September 2016

Note: This wine is sweeter than indicated on the Dr. Konstantin Frank web site, and might not suit those drinkers who prefer a dry & spicy style of Gewürztraminer.  This wine held up extremely well for several days in the fridge.
