Weis Gewürztraminer 2016: $19 Very Good

The Weis Vineyards Gewürztraminer (Finger Lakes, NY) $19 [Very Good] is a very successful wine, particularly in this warm vintage.  Firm and nicely structured, savory, but with good fruit to match, this wine works very well with food.  Try it with mild to moderately spicy Indian and Asian dishes.

Medium straw in color, the Weis features solid musky aromas of pear, lychee and rose, accompanied by strong savory elements — spice, stone, and wet wool.  Medium bodied, dry to medium dry, with a surprising amount of spritzy acidity for this warm vintage, balance is very good.  Firm focused flavors of pear, lychee, citrus, rose, peppery spice, stone and a touch of wet wool have very good concentration, and show more power than the aromas indicate.  The finish is quite firm, slightly tannic, with good length.  August 2017
