Hosmer Grüner Veltliner 2015: $20 Good+ to Very Good

The Hosmer Winery Grüner Veltliner (Cayuga Lake AVA, Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $20 [Good+ to Very Good] is, I believe, the first Grüner from this winery.  It is a very successful first effort.  Lighter bodied, with vibrant spritz-y acidity and fresh flavors, this is a nice wine to sip or to serve with vegetable dishes, such as Pasta with Pesto Sauce and salads.

Light lemon in color, the Hosmer shows light aromas of green apple, melon, celery seed, anise and a smoky/stony mineral note.  Light to medium bodied, medium dry, with vibrant spritz-y acidity, balance is OK.  Flavors of candied green apple, melon, smoke, stones and anise are moderately intense and fresh, with good appeal.  The finish does not quite live up to the mid-palate, with average balance & length.  May 2016

Note: This is Hosmer’s first Grüner, an auspicious debut.
