Kemmeter Pinot Cuvée 2015: $26 Good

This is the first wine made by Kemmeter from its own grapes.  It is a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc.  This Pinot Cuvée is not a standout, but one expects great things in the future from Kemmeter’s estate vineyard, given Johannes Reinhardt’s meticulous approach to viticulture.

The Kemmeter Wines Pinot Cuvée (Kemmeter Estate Vineyard, Seneca Lake, NY) 2015 $26 [Good] is medium lemon in color, with a slight pink cast.  Light aromas of pear, ripe apple, white cherry, steel, and a pungent acid note have a “sweetish” quality.  Medium bodied, medium dry, with average acidity and a distinct peppery quality, balance is good.  Flavors of very ripe apple, white cherries, a steely note, and white pepper have modest concentration and are a bit cloying.  Acidity is lacking to balance the sweetness.  The finish is spicy/peppery with average length.  August 2016

Note: This wine is a blend of 63% Pinot Noir and 37% Pinot Blanc.
