Kemmeter Pinot Blanc 2016: $26 Very Good+

Are you looking for a wine of power and exceptionally deep flavor?  This isn’t it.  The Kemmeter Wines Pinot Blanc (Kemmeter Estate Vineyard, Seneca Lake, NY) $26 [Very Good+] is a medium sweet wine with delicate flavors, exceptional purity, and beautiful balance.  It is not really meant for food, but for wine enthusiasts who love to sip, savor, and contemplate their wine.  I have never tasted a Pinot Blanc from the Finger Lakes with such purity and character.  This first release from Kemmeter (from very young vines) is a harbinger of greater wines to come.

Light lemon yellow in color, the aromas are relatively light but precise, with scents of smoke, wax, ripe apple, pear, and hints of lemon curd, tangerine and white pepper.  Medium bodied, medium sweet and soft, the Kemmeter is beautifully balanced.  Medium intense waxy and sappy flavors of ripe yellow apple, pear, tangerine, anise, and white pepper have exceptional freshness, purity and foucs as well as a good deal of complexity.  The finish is very well balanced, lightly spicy, with very good length.  March 2017
