Hector Wine Company Pinot Gris 2016: $14 to $18 Good

The Hector Wine Company Pinot Gris (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $14 to $18 [Good] is a big and alcoholic wine, with unfocused honeyed flavors and awkward balance.  Drink it with food.

Medium pink-tinted straw in color, the aromas display ripe and weighty scents of honeyed apple and pear, accented by a bit of candied orange, roasted nuts and brown spice.  Full bodied, dry, mouth filling, and oily textured, a good deal of alcoholic heat shows through.  Balance is fair.  Unfocused flavors of very ripe honeyed apple and pear are touched by a bit of orangey citrus and spice.  Alcohol sticks out in the ungainly finish.  Length is average.  September 2017
