Dr. Konstantin Frank Pinot Gris 2015: $20 Good+

The Dr. Konstantin Frank Pinot Gris (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $20 [Good+] is a medium dry version of this grape, made in a very citrus-y/peppery style.  Although “Pinot Gris” is on the label, it is closer in style to an Italian “Pinot Grigio” (same grape).

Pale lemon in color, the aromas are sprightly and effusive, with scents of lime, grapefruit, white peach, pepper, and hints of wax and petrol.  Medium bodied, medium dry, with lots of spritz-y acidity, the Frank has a very spicy mouth feel.  Balance is OK.  Good flavors of grapefruit, apple and white peach are accented by a greal deal of pepper and hints of petrol.  The finish is a tad awkward and quite peppery, with average length.  April 2016
