Thirsty Owl Pinot Gris 2015: $15 Good+

The Thirsty Owl Wine Company Pinot Gris (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $ [Good+] has the solid honeyed apple and pear fruit typical of this vintage.  While it does not lack flavor, earthy/loamy flavors (especially in the finish) hold the wine back a bit.  Drink this bottle with food.

Medium lemon in color, the Thirsty Owl has solid aromas of honeyed apple and pear, earthy loam, and hints of apricot, lime and machine oil.  It has a relatively tart nose for a 2015 Pinot Gris, especially before aeration.  Medium bodied, dry, very firm, with more acidity than is typical of the vintage, balance is good.  Flavors of honeyed apple and pear, lime, machine oil and earthy loam are medium intense.  The finish is a bit askew, with fruit receding, replaced by earthy and peppery notes.  Length is good.  September 2016
