Ravines Sauvignon Blanc 2016: $19 Good

Wines from Ravines are usually very focused, with clear flavors.  The Ravines Wine Cellars “Estate Bottled” Sauvignon Blanc (Finger Lakes, NY) $19 [Good] is the rare exception to the rule.  Full bodied, with awkward balance and diffuse flavors, this wine is best with food.

Medium lemon in color, the Ravines has diffuse aromas of lime, ripe grapefruit, lemongrass, steel, and a minor grassy note.  Full bodied, dry, with a round mouth feel, balance is fair.  Hard-to-grasp moderately intense flavors of lime, ripe grapefruit, steel, and a chalky mineral note lack focus.  The finish is short and concludes with a bitter lime zest note.  April 2017
