Fox Run Lemberger 2015: $21 Very Good

The Fox Run Lemberger (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $21 [Very Good] is a structured and well made wine, with tight & somewhat restrained flavors.  It opened up a bit after a night in the fridge and showed no deterioration.  If you’re curious how Lemberger might age, this would be the wine to buy .

This Lemberger is very nice to look at, a sparkling medium dark ruby.  Lightly tart and very firm aromas of red currant, black berries, black cherry, ferrous mineral, pepper, and hints of tobacco are attractive.  Medium bodied, satiny, with good acidity and well integrated tannins, balance is very good.  Flavors of black cherry, tart red berries, black pepper, herbs, ferrous mineral and a light “green” note are tangy, with good concentration.  The finish is of a piece with good length.  February 2017

Note:  This wine kept for several days without any notable decline.  According to Peter Bell, the winemaker at Fox Run, this bottle "almost certainly wants 18 months or so [of time in the cellar].”
