Fox Run Lemberger 2016: $21 Good+ to Very Good

The Fox Run Lemberger (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $21 [Good+ to Very Good] is a polished wine with pure and authentic middleweight flavors.  It showed best on day one.  After a day in the fridge, this bottle seemed rather disjointed, and a medicinal note in the flavors was a distraction.  Serve this bottle with food in one sitting.

Bright medium ruby in color, aromas of red and black fruit, vanilla, dried mushroom, black pepper and mineral are attractive.  Toasty notes emerge with air.  Medium to bull bodied, silky, with fine clenching tannin, the Fox Run has a polished mouth feel — at least on the first day.  Flavors of cherry, sour cherry and blackberry are pure and medium intense, accented by black pepper, vanilla, lead pencil and a touch of medicine cabinet.  The finish is somewhat gritty and lightly bitter, with good length.  February 2018
