Barnstormer Cabernet Franc 2015: $22 Good

The Barnstormer Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, NY) $22 [Good] is a modestly intense wine.  The flavors have a rather hollow and dilute quality.  Overtly oaky/woody notes detract.

Light violet-tinged ruby in color, the aromas are initially tart and tangy, with scents of strawberry, raspberry and red currant accented by brown spice, vanilla, potpourri, fig, and an overtly oaky note.  Medium bodied, satiny, with moderate firm tannins, balance is good.  Flavors of strawberry, raspberry, brown spice, fig, potpourri and a bit of pepper have a hollow and somewhat dilute quality, with an overtly oaky/woody note detracting.  The finish is of average length.  March 2017

Note:  On day two this wine showed more fruit, but this gain was offset by wooly and green notes in the aromas and more awkward balance.
