Rooster Hill Cabernet Franc 2015: $16 to $23 Good+

The Rooster Hill Estate Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $16 to $23 [Good+] is in many respects similar to the 2015 Buttonwood Grove, with appealing soft red fruit and a plethora of peppery Cabernet Franc spice.  As with the Buttonwood, this is a wine for drinkers who fancy the spicy and savory side of Cabernet Franc.  Drink it with food.

Light ruby in color, the aromas are medium intense and sharp, with scents of peppery spice, rubber, lead pencil, menthol and sweet tobacco taking the upper hand over warm red fruit.  Medium bodied, with light gritty tannin and average acidity, balance is good.  Plump and juicy red fruit is quite attractive, but the fruit is challenged by savory peppery spice, rubber and lead pencil notes.  The finish is lightly gritty, quite peppery/spicy, with good length.  June 2017
