Schneider & Bieler “le breton” Cabernet Franc 2015: $19 Very Good to Very Good+

The Schneider & Bieler “le breton” Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $19 [Very Good to Very Good+] is the kind of wine most of us love to drink in a restaurant.  Soft and silky, with solid flavors and good balance, this wine is very tasty but is not likely to overpower food, or to shine too brightly without it.  Drink this bottle with dinner.

Dark ruby in color, the aromas are clean and pure, with scents of raspberry and black currant, mint, stone and gravel, a bit of peppery spice, and subtle oaky notes.  Medium bodied, quite soft, with light tannin and a mineral tingle, balance is good.  Affable open knit flavors of red and black fruit are inflected with light peppery spice and stony/gravelly notes.  The flavors don’t quite live up to the interesting aromas, but they are tasty and very food friendly.  The finish is soft and lightly peppery with good length.  November 2017
