McGregor Pinot Noir 2015: $30 Good

The McGregor Winery Pinot Noir (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $30 [Good] has substance, but awkward balance and a surfeit of cedary and rubbery notes reduce its appeal.  Drink this wine in one sitting, with food.

Light brick orange in color, there are pointed aromas of cedar, peppery spice, metal, and red fruit.  After a day in the fridge, unattractive rubbery notes join this mix.  Medium bodied, with a full round mouthfeel, light to medium tannin, and a peppery tickle, balance is OK.  Simple medium intense flavors of red fruit are greatly accented by pepper, cedar, and bitter notes.  The finish shows abundant pepper and cedar, with awkward balance and good length.  March 2018
