Inspire Moore “Joy” Dry Riesling 2016: $12 to $16 Good

This year’s version of the Inspire Moore “Joy” Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $12 to $16 [Good] does not measure up to the 2015.  Unlike last year’s model, it lacks…. joy.  The 2016 has somber flavors and shows some alcoholic heat.  Drink it with food.

Light lemon in color, the aromas are not compelling.  Acid and gunflint notes dominate, with fleeting scents of apple, guava and peach.  Medium bodied, medium dry, with a slightly viscous mouth feel and some alcoholic heat, balance is OK.  Somber flavors of apple, guava, anise and a light bitter note have a heavy quality and lack vivacity.  The finish is peppery, slightly bitter, with average length.  June 2017
