Keuka Lake Dry Riesling 2016: $15 Very Good to Very Good+

The Keuka Lake Vineyards Dry Riesling (Estate Grown, Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $15 [Very Good to Very Good+] is not a powerful wine, but it is complex, with very good balance.  It should age well.  It is a bargain, especially compared to the “Falling Man” single vineyard wine of the same vintage ($45).  It is also a fine introduction to the Keuka Lake Vineyards style.

Medium lemon in color, aromas of dried apricot and peaches, lemon/lime, wax, and spicy ginger have some power and hold a good deal of interest.  Medium bodied, off dry to medium dry, with average acidity (for Riesling), the KLV is very well balanced.  Flavors of dried peach and apricot, lemon/lime, ginger, slate, and a touch of honey have good concentration and an appealing understated quality.  The finish is of-a-piece, balanced, lightly spicy, with very good length.  September 2017
