Keuka Spring “Humphreys Vineyard” Riesling 2016: $16 Very Good

You can taste the ripeness of the vintage in the Keuka Spring “Humphreys Vineyard” Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $16 [Very Good].  It is notably richer than the 2015, and also sweeter.  With round, ripe, and substantial flavors, this wine is a crowd pleaser.  A touch of sugar and low acidity mean it will work best as a sipper.

Medium straw in color, the aromas are plump and mellow, with scents of ripe apple, apricot, honey, anise and mineral.  Medium bodied, medium dry, plump, with a lightly astringent quality, balance is good.  Flavors of ripe apple, apple skin, tangerine, honey and a hint of anise have good purity and concentration.  The finish is pleasantly spicy, balanced, a bit astringent, and just slightly tart.  Length is good.  June 2017
