Nathan K. Dry Riesling 2016: $22 Very Good

The Nathan K. Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) $22 [Very Good] is an enjoyable and interesting wine, but not for everyone.  Low in alcohol (but not sweet) and very mineral, this bottle is an outlier in the Riesling world, probably best appreciated by Riesling afficiandos.  Quite drinkable now, it may improve with time in the cellar.

Medium straw in color, the aromas are light and piercing, on the austere side of the spectrum, with scents of lime, green apple, tart apricot and a pronounced mineral note.  Light bodied, off dry, soft in the middle but with fairly high acidity, the wine has a spicy mouth feel.  Balance is good.  Flavors of tart apricot, green apple, lime, smoky mineral, and a light bitter streak have good focus and concentration.  The finish is tart, mineral, and limey with very good length.  November 2017
