Dr. Konstantin Frank Dry Riesling 2015: $15 Very Good+

The Dr. Konstantin Frank Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $15 [Very Good+] is not as charming or impeccably balanced as the 2014, but it is a very nice wine, with more emphasis this year on shale stone mineral notes and lemon-lime flavors.  Quite dry, with lots of zesty acidity, it is more austere than the 2014 and well suited for food.

Bright medium lemon in color, the tart aromas feature lemon oil, lime, green apple, a hint of pineapple, citrus zest and shale stone mineral.  Medium bodied, dry, with a great deal of tangy mouth watering acidity, balance is very good.  Flavors of green apple, lime, apricot, a bit of pineapple, bitter citrus zest and a large dose of slate-like mineral have very good concentration.  There is nice balance between fruit and the savory mineral, citrus zest and bitter notes.  The finish is impressively balanced and “together,” ending like the closure of a precision tool, with a smack of the lips and very good length.  October 2016
