Dr. Konstantin Frank Semi-Dry Riesling 2015: $15 Good+ to Very Good

The Dr. Konstantin Frank Semi-Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $15 [Good+ to Very Good] makes a good first impression but weakens considerably with air — and following an overnight in the fridge.  Medium sweet (nothing “dry” about it this wine), with snappy acidity and good fruity flavors, it should be consumed in one sitting.

Medium lemon in color, the aromas initially seem rich and weighty, with scents of pineapple, peach, lime, honey and a spicey mineral note.  With air there is less forceful fruit and more raw acidity.  Medium bodied, medium sweet, with Frank’s trademark zesty acidity, balance is good.  Forceful flavors of pineapple, ripe grapefruit, apple, honey, citrus zest and a spicy mineral note have very good focus and concentration initially, but weaken considerably with air and time.  The alliance between fruit and mineral elements is rather uneasy.  The lips get a good smack in the moderately long finish.  September 2016
