Barry Family Cellars “Gridley Bluff Point” Riesling 2016: $18 Good

The Barry Family Cellars “Gridley Bluff Point Vineyard” Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $18 [Good] is a soft and sweet wine, with mellow peachy flavors.  Notes of wet wool and green stems detract from the appeal of the fruit flavors.  This wine is a sipper.  It is best served quite cold.

Pale lemon in color, the aromas are airy and diffuse, with light notes of peach, lime, and honey.  Scents of wet wool and green stems develop as the wine warms up, and detract.  Medium bodied, sweet, with a soft and gentle mouth feel, balance is good.  Flavors of white peach, apple, lime, honey, light spice, mineral, and wooly/stemmy notes have moderate concentration.  The finish is of a piece, lightly lip smacking, with wet wool and bitter green notes that detract from the wine’s appeal.  March 2017
