Dr. Konstantin Frank “Reserve” Riesling 2016: $25 Very Good

The Dr. Konstantin Frank “Reserve” Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $25 [Very Good] is a very sweet wine, with about twice as much sugar as a typical semi-dry Riesling.  The wine shows quite well when it is kept cold and stoppered.  With warmth, the wine’s spritz disappears and balance is problematic.  Drink this wine if you like very sweet Riesling.  Keep it very cold.

Medium lemon in color, the aromas showcase lemon candy, lime, baked peach, honey and a fairly strong shale stone note.  Light to medium bodied,  very sweet, with just enough acidity and spritz to keep it balanced (when quite cold), balance is good.  Flavors of lime, lemon candy, baked peaches, a strong shale stone note, and hints of honey have very good intensity.  The finish works when the wine is cold, but is a bit disjointed as the glass warms.  Length is good to very good.  March 2018
