The Heron Hill Winery Semi-Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $14 [Good+] is a tart semi-dry, with lots of bitter citrus zest and dried apricot in its aromas and flavors. These tart/bitter qualities make repeated sipping taxing, but it should work well with snacks and some dinner recipes. Lovers of bitter citrus flavors might give this wine a somewhat higher rating.
Medium lemon in color, sharp aromas of gunflint and citrus zest partially conceal dried apricot and lemon/lime fruit. Medium bodied, medium dry to medium sweet, with a good deal of sharp acidity, balance is good. Flavors of dried apricot, bitter citrus zest, lemon/lime and shale stone have good concentration. Bitter citrus and mineral notes dominate the finish, which has good length. February 2018.
