Terrassen Cabernet Franc 2016: $30 Good+

Some wines improve over the course of a meal.  Some become less appealing.  The Terrassen Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, NY) 2016 $30 [Good+] is a good wine, but sour acetic acid and bitterness in the finish become more apparent as the bottle's last glasses are poured.  Drink this wine with food.

Light ruby in color, scents of raspberry, spice and mineral predominate, with meaty dried mushroom notes emerging with air.  There is also a hint of acetic acid in the aromas.  Medium bodied, satiny textured, with medium intense well-integrated tannins, balance is very good.  Flavors of fresh raspberries are accompanied by a significant mineral component, as well as lighter notes of herbs, medicine cabinet, and peppery spice.  There is a bit of sour acetic acid too.  The finish turns spicier, more tannic, lightly bitter, with a distinct sour note and good length.  November 2016
